Navigator

Finally a Compass that is Zone-Free!

The latest in compass technology, the Suunto MC-2G Global Navigator is the first compass ever made to work accurately in all zones of the world. Thanks to it's unique design of separating the needle and magnet, only the magnet is affected by the magnetic lines surrounding the earth. This allows the needle to settle quickly and stop immediately at the right position, enabling you to take an exact bearing. Other features include a rotating luminous dial graduated every 2 degrees and numbered every 20 degrees, a built-in clinometer measures heights and slopes to 90 degrees.

FEATURES

  • Balanced for worldwide use
  • Quick and stable settling of the needle
  • Adjustable declination correction scale with built in screw
  • Easy reading rotating compass dial with 2 degree increments, numbered every 20 degrees
  • Extra large night time luminous dial and markings
  • Jeweled bearing damped by a non freeze liquid
  • Built-in clinometer, measures heights to +/- 90 degrees, with 2 degree increments, numbered every 20 degrees
  • Scale, cm 1:25,000, and 1:50,000 or inches 1:24,000 and 1:62,500
  • Large sighting mirror, for more accurate readings
  • Temperature range from -40 degrees F to +140 degrees F
  • Clear protractor base imprinted in red
  • Lanyard and declination tool included

BENEFITS

  • Very short stabilizing time
  • Improved tilt-free range of +/- 20 degrees
  • Only one compass is required for all latitudes
  • Accurate reading

The global compass needle is a revolutionary concept because up until now, there has never been a compass that could function flawlessly in all zones of the world. A typical feature for regular compasses is that they can function without problems only at limited longitudes because the changes in the magnetic field affect the position of the needle. For fast needles this phenomenon is even more prominent.

In the global compass this problem has been solved with a structural innovation. The needle and magnet are built as separate units functioning independently from each other, so that the inclination of the magnetic field cannot tilt the needle. The needle can no longer move vertically. It is the compass magnet, separated from the needle, which absorbs the vertical force of the magnetic field. The needle itself is fixed at the lid by means of a double jeweled bearing. The magnet rotates with its jewel bearing on a pin. Such a compass works reliably in all zones of the world. Due to the strong magnet, the needle settles very quickly and stops immediately at the right position, allowing for an extremely accurate reading.

Compasses need to be balanced for the zone of the world that they will be working. This is due to changes in the magnetic field affecting the position of the compass needle. When you use ANY compass outside of the area it has been calibrated, you may receive false readings. The Global Navigator MC-2G is an exception due to the unique design of the needle.
